Planning Your 4th of July Weekend

This is without a doubt one of our favorite times of the year to be in Cazenovia! During America's birthday weekend there are always so many great event going on in and around the town. There are many great ways to build a perfect weekend, here are our humble suggestions.


Friday, July 1st

  • 8:00am: Breakfast at Pewter Spoon A great place to grab a light breakfast and relax in an inviting atmosphere. They have a rotating menu of sandwiches, bowls, specialty brew and more. Emphasis on vegan and vegetarian options – but carnivores are always welcome. (315) 655-5554

  • 10:00am - 4:30pm: Tour Lorenzo State Historic Site History comes to life at Lorenzo State Historic Site, home to five generations and 160 years of occupation by the founding family of Cazenovia. Tours available Friday and Saturday by appointment only. (315) 655-3200

  • 10:00am - 5:00pm: Going on all weekend long, the Cazenovia Shops will be hosting sidewalk sales. There will even be a balloon magician on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

  • 3pm: Walk through art in nature at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park: (3883 Stone Quarry Rd.) Inspired by the relationship between art and nature, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park seeks to educate and engage the public through exhibitions, collection, interpretation, and community outreach programs in the arts. Set among 104 acres of conserved land and groomed trails, the Art Park is dedicated to providing a unique environment for the showcasing of art by emerging and established artists, in natural and gallery settings.   • 7:45pm: Ice Cream at Carter's Creamery. They close at 8pm, so make sure you get there on time! Great scoops and friendly smiles. For more information, click here.


Saturday, July 2nd:

  • 8am: Breakfast at Cazenovia Bagel Co. Authentic NYC bagels (with GF options) and bialys with various cream cheese flavors. Try their L-E-O with house-brined lox made by us, right here at The Brewster Inn. (315) 815-4209

  • 9am: Kayak on Cazenovia Lake with Morse Kayak Rentals Morse Kayak Rentals offers kayak and canoe rentals on Cazenovia Lake with transportation to Lakeside Park or directly to The Brewster Inn. Call (315) 655-2400

  • 11am: Swimming at Gypsy Bay: (Route 13) Walk out the door of The Brewster Inn and take a right. Just a short walk down the road and you will come across a big open field and a parking area. Great for sunbathing or a leisurely summer picnic this is a great local swimming spot. Head down to the water for a great secluded sandy swimming area. No life guards on-duty here, so swim at your own risk. Also – a great spot to launch kayaks, paddleboards and canoes.

  • 12pm: Lunch at Owera Vineyards: (5276 East Lake Rd.) Your one stop shop for wine to-go, wine slushies and growlers. Enjoy a wine tastings along with light snacks including charcuterie boards & cheese boards. (315) 815-4311

  • 1:00pm: Explore The Museum at The Cazenovia Public Library: (100 Albany St.) Over it’s 100 years of existence, The Cazenovia Public Library has acquired a number of collections through generous donations. Objects of all sorts have gravitated to the library, which has long served as our community’s “attic”, and by default its historical society. One of the biggest attractions to date is “Hen” the mummy which was recently the subject of a documentary just released. The museum is open during regular library hours and there is no admissions fee. www.cazenoviapubliclibrary.org

  • 3:00pm: Explore the Madison Country Freedom Trail: This trail marks county wide sites of the Underground Railroad that have been identified and researched by the Madison County Freedom Trail Commission. www.madisoncounty.ny.gov

  • 5pm - 9pm: Critz Farms Live Music with Rebecca & the Soul Shakers (3232 Rippleton Rd.) We love the funky and innovative brews from this family-run beverage operation. The beers are seasonal and constantly changing. Their tasting room features 8 taps on draft and all beverages (wine, cider & beer) are available in their gift shop. (315) 662-3355

Sunday, July 3rd:

  • 8am: Coffee at Purpose Coffee Co. or grab a full breakfast at Dave's Diner (35 Albany St.) Stop in for a coffee, tea, cold-brew, smoothie, latte and more at the to-go counter or grab a table in the restaurant. This open kitchen diner serves up great portions of breakfast classics. (315) 815-4300

  • 9am - 2pm: Cazenovia's Farmer's Market For more information click here.

  • 9:30am - 10:30am: Yoga On The Docks Each Sunday we will be gathering on the docks at 9:30am for a 1-hour yoga session. As part of your ticket, you will receive a complimentary mimosa or Bloody Mary. Tickets are $20. For more information click here. To RSVP for yoga, click here.

  • 10:30am: Brunch at The Brewster Inn We serve an á la carte brunch on Sunday mornings from 10:30am to 2:00pm. Menu items include but are not limited to eggs benedict, crème brulee French toast, seasonal quiche and more. For more information click here.

  • 12:00pm: Lunch at In Good Company cafe and eatery serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches, soups, salads, and coffee. (315) 815-4318

  • 1:00pm: Savor Sunday Wine Tasting at Owera Vineyards. From 1:00pm to 4:00pm each Sunday, join them for a tasting of their fabulous wines. As Madison County's first vineyard, the 57-acre farm winery includes a state-of-the-art building which houses a rustic yet chic tasting room and a wine production facility. Within the vineyard a pergola and event center have been built, with an adjoining veranda that overlooks the vines. Don't miss out on 25% off full and half cases of wine, Sundays only!

  • 2pm: Visit Chittenango Falls: (2300 Rathbun Rd.) A picturesque 167-foot waterfall is the main attraction of Chittenango Falls State Park! Glacial sculpting over 400 million year-old bedrock is responsible for this scenic feature. Visitors can view the falls from the top, walk the winding trail into the gorge view the falls from the footbridge and return to the top along the small trail on the opposite side of the gorge.   • 4pm - 6pm: Live Music at Meier’s Creek with Little Queen Duo (33 Rippleton Rd.) Great craft beer brewed on site. All glass walls give you a glimpse into the immense endeavor it is to create craft beer. A good selection of casual dining favorites to be enjoyed in their expansive dining room and on their stunning back patio. (315) 815-4022

Monday, July 4th:

  • 8am - 12noon: 4th of July 5K & 10K Races Whether you are running or just cheering on friends and family, this is a great way to start America's birthday. For more info, click here.

  • 12:00pm: Lunch at The Lincklaen House: (79 Albany St.) Casual dining in a beautiful historic building in the center of Cazenovia’s downtown. Fan favorites include poutine, nachos, baked brie and more! (315) 655-3461

  • 12:30am - 1:45pm: 4th of July Parade Join us on Albany Street and Lincklaen Street for our fabulous parade. Grab a lawn chair and join us curbside for the festivities. For more info, click here.

  • 4:00pm: Leisurely stroll through Green Lakes State Park: (7900 Green Lakes Road. Fayetteville, NY 13066) Green Lakes State Park's outstanding features are its two glacial lakes surrounded by upland forest. Both Round and Green Lakes are meromictic lakes, which means that there is no fall and spring mixing of surface and bottom waters. Such lakes have a high potential for evidence of ancient plant and animal life. Another special feature of the park is the 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones.
